Today in First Grade

Phonics:

Today we practiced the difference with  Y  when marking multi syllable words.  When  Y  is at the end of a word where it is the only vowel in a word  (one syllable), then the  Y  says the long I sound.   When the Y  is at the end of a multi-syllable word the  Y  will say the long E  sound.

Reading Groups:

Group A:    Great Day

Group B:    Beaks and Feet    Sooty

Group C:    Natural Disasters

Then Mrs. B  gave a lesson about being happy even when things go wrong in life.  We need to realizing that the same things that sometimes make us sad are also the same things that often make us happy.  Hard times and difficulties can give us strengths and compassion.

After lunch we had our monthly assembly.  This month's theme was "caring."

It was early out.
