April 14, 2014

See what we're learning.
Talk and share with your child about the day.
Review and give extra help and practice if needed.

Today in First Grade

Only two days of school this week.

Today we did "y" when another vowel is making it say its long sound, which is the long "i" sound.  There are not many short words, so I was showing them multi-syllable words.  This is a good introduction into the next section.  When we are done with y, we will begin multi-syllable words.

Reading Groups:

Group A:    The Giant Gingerbread Man

Group B:    Heat        Ice

Group C:    Cat and Dog        Spiders Spin Silk

Our new math unit is about three-dimensional shapes.

In the afternoon we read books, went to computes, and PE.

Then we finished reviewing a reading comprehension test we had taken so we could talk    about what comprehension is, how to know which is the right answer, and how to find the answers in the stories.  We will be taking another test like it soon.

Then we watched a short movie about a lion cub and a cheetah cub.
We ended the day by celebrating a child's birthday.

Tomorrow we will have the opportunity to make something with clay.
