See what we're learning.
Talk and share with your child about the day.
Review and give extra help and practice if needed.

Today in First Grade

Phonics:

Today we did  y  when it is at the beginning of a word.

Reading Groups:

Group A:     The Fourth of July          Why People Move

Group B:    Tarantulas

Group C:    Making Choices       That Looks Different

Math:

We are still doing data.  We are using information to fill in tables and graphs.

Sometimes we read a story to get our information.

Sometimes we ask other children in the class for information like the color of their eyes.

Sometimes we have to add parts together and then take it away from other parts to find the more or fewer part (the difference.)

Writing:

Today we did a fun writing activity.  First we numbered the lines on our writing paper.  Then children were chosen to name a noun or a verb (practice learning nouns and verbs.)  Then we had to use the word to make a sentence.  As they finished their sentence and it was punctuated correctly, they then got to read their sentence to the class using a microphone.

We are putting lots of time into practicing writing.  There are so few days left and so many things to learn.  Time goes so very quickly.
