March 5, 2014

See what we're learning.
Talk and share with your child about the day.
Review and give extra help and practice if needed.

Today in First Grade

We did a practice paper that helped us understand words that had the digraph blends we have been practicing.

Reading Groups:

Group A:     The Flea's Plan     Show and Tell

Group B:     Mixing Concrete

Group C:     American Indian Weaving      Fossils

We have been practicing regrouping.  Regrouping is when you add numbers together that have more ones than will fit into the ones place.  So you have to make a group of ten and regroup it over with the other tens.   To help us understand, we worked with number blocks to add and regroup.

First, we practiced regrouping a vertical addition problem with two-digit numbers.

Then we practiced regrouping with a two-digit addition problem that was horizontal.

Then we practiced simple two-digit addition, showing it in digit form, manipulative form, picture form, and word form.
(This is still hard for many of them.  We will continue to practice.)

After lunch we worked on our spelling words.

Wednesday is early out.
