February 24, 2014

See what we're learning.
Talk and share with your child about the day.
Review and give extra help and practice if needed.

Today in First Grade

We watched our last Olympics video today.  Here is what our Olympic medals bulletin board looked like at the end.
Thanks Second and Third grades for letting us share your bulletin board.
Phonics:

We had an introductory lesson about digraphs.  We have been talking about them all year long as we learn to read.  We are now having our official lessons on them.  The children already know the most common digraphs:    th   sh   ch    ck
We will be learning and practicing the less common digraphs:     wr    gn    ph    kn

We also did a worksheet about taking apart contractions into the words they are made of.

Reading Groups:

Group A:     The Train Race

Group B:      Where Does the Water Go?      Who Lays Eggs

Group C:      When a Storm Comes     Your Amazing Body

Math:

Today we practiced adding two-digit numbers that were just tens.

We also subtracted two-digit numbers that were just tens.

We practiced drawing pictures to understand the numbers.

After lunch we read books, computer time, PE, a word play, and we learned and practiced our new spelling words.
