February 21, 2014

See what we're learning.
Talk and share with your child about the day.
Review and give extra help and practice if needed.

Today in First Grade

Phonics:

Today we reviewed and practiced putting "an" and "a" in front of words.  "A" goes with words that start with a consonant and "an" goes with words that start with a vowel.  (An exception is words that start with h, but I don't teach that in first grade.)

Reading Groups:

Group A:     Who is the Tallest?

Group B:     A Habitat is Where We Live      My Messy Room

Group C:     Little Monkey           In the Circus

Math:

First we tried to remember all the strategies we have been learning this year.  We talked about how important it is to learn to do our math with those strategies rather than just counting.

Then we practiced the strategy of drawing a picture in order to do two-digit addition and subtraction.

In the afternoon we read books, went to the library, PE, Drama, and did our last spelling test of the week.

We passed out invitations for parent-teacher-conferences.  Give me a call at school or home if you need to.
