February 14, 2014

See what we're learning.
Talk and share with your child about the day.
Review and give extra help and practice if needed.

Today in First Grade

Phonics:

We practiced the other r-controled vowels, which all make the very same sound.  Ir, er, ur, and yr all make a sound like ur.  The only way to tell them apart and know which one to use is to memorize how to spell the word.

Reading Groups:

Group A:        People Who Save Animals

Group B:        Mapping North America

Group C:        Billy Banana        The Stubborn Goat

Math:

Today we used clues and stories to find groups of numbers.  Below are some examples.

Here we are working hard!

After lunch we read books, went to the library, PE, and drama.  Then we had our valentines party.  We had cookies and water, colored white paper bags, and then passed out our valentines by putting them into each child's bag.  The bags were then stapled shut and sent home with the children to enjoy at their leisure.   Hope everyone has a great Valentines Day and Presidents Day.
