February 13, 2014

See what we're learning.
Talk and share with your child about the day.
Review and give extra help and practice if needed.

Today in First Grade

Phonics:

We practiced the r-controlled o.  When an r controls an o it makes the o say the long sound.

Reading Groups:

Group A:       Working with Dad

Group B:       Lizard's Tail

Group C:       Machines That Fly        Roads and Bridges

Math:

We drew representations of numbers to visually understand how they are the same or different.  We then put  >,<, or = between the numbers.  We especially practiced starting with the larger place value and working down until their is a difference.  Many of the children still have troubles knowing the tens from the ones in a number.  It is such a confusing brain teaser to some of them.

We read books, did a word play, and a spelling practice.

We ended the day reading a book about homes together.  We talked about how homes are built differently in different places because there are different materials available and different need.
