December 3, 2013

See what we're learning.
Talk and share with your child about the day.
Review and give extra help and practice if needed.

Today in First Grade

We took turns choosing random words and deciding if   "a"  or "an"  would go in front of them.

Reading Groups:

Group A:      The Farmer Didn't Wake Up

Group B:       Great Grandma and I

Group C:       My Messy Room       The Flea's Plan

We have begun studying the relationship between addition and subtraction.
We are talking about how you can change the location of the numbers to make different addition problems and subtraction problems.  These are called related facts, also known as "fact families."

We reviewed vocabulary words.  The answer to an addition problems is the sum and the answer to a subtraction problem is the difference.

We talked about many different ways to help find answers to story problems.  We can draw circles, make an equation, use a diagram, compare a line of cubes, etc....   When we read math stories, we need to be able to find the important information and figure out how to put it together to find the answer.
