Today in First Grade

Phonics: 


We learned the idea that consonants can affect the sounds of vowels.  If there is one vowel and there is one consonent after it, the guarding consonent is making the vowel say its shot sound.  We mark the guarding consonant with an asterisk.  If there is a guarding consonant, then we mark the symbol for the short vowel sound above the vowel.

Math:

Yesterday we practiced doing horizontal three-addend equations.  Today we practiced doing Vertical three-addend equations.  

Today was library, PE, and drama.
